Samsung Total Petrochemicals selects LyondellBasell for Daesan

Samsung Total Petrochemicals, the Joined Venture between Samsung General Chemicals and Total Petrochemicals, has selected the LyondellBasell Lupotech T process technology for their co-polymer project in Daesan, South Korea.

Key features of Lupotech T technology include low manufacturing and investment costs, fast start-up and grade changes, high on-stream factor and capacities of up to 450 KT per year, which make it today’s technology of choice for the production of Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) copolymers.

Samsung Total is already operating a 250,000t/y Spherizone Polypropylene plant in the Daesan petrochemical complex and plan to add its olefins capacity with 200,000 t/y Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) and Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA).

The completion is expected in 2013

On aromatics side Samsung Total confirmed in February their $1.8 billion capital expenditure  for the expansion of the existing units with additional:

  • 1 million t/y Paraxylene
  • 500,000 t/y Paraxylene

The completion is expected in 2014.
